Ortho-K is a method of using specially designed oxygen-permeable contact lenses to reshape the front surface of the eye, eventually allowing clear vision during the day without corrective lenses. The contact lens is worn every night or a few nights a week, depending on individual results, and it’s ideal for mild to moderate myopia.
Studies show that Ortho-K can reduce the progressive lengthening of the eye, resulting in a slower progression of childhood myopia.

Multifocal soft myopia control contact lenses are specially designed lenses with different power zones to correct for presbyopia as well as myopia or hyperopia. However, recent studies provide evidence that these myopia-control contact lenses are effective in reducing myopic progression by as much as 50%.

Developed by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and designed by Hoya Canadas, this single-vision spectacle lens is specially designed to reduce the progression of myopia by working to minimize peripheral hyperopic defocus. The randomized controlled study showed to slow myopia progression by 60%.

Based on the long-established theory that excessive near work causes over-accommodation and stimulating myopia progression, several studies have been done to find ways to eliminate this trigger. Results have shown that a low concentration of atropine is effective in slowing the progression of myopia up to as much as a 50% control rate. Atropine works to relax the eye muscles responsible for accommodation, hence minimizing the stimulus for myopic development. Because of the low concentration, side effects such as light sensitivity and glare are less and more tolerable than those of full concentration Atropine.
Our myopia control optometrists will be happy to explore with you the different options to slow the progression of myopia.

Common Mistakes Patients Make Regarding Their Eye Health

Vision is the most important of the five senses, as eighty percent of what we perceive comes through our sense of sight. Unfortunately, good eyesight is something most of us take for granted. here’s a list of three common mistakes people make regarding their eye health, that you should avoid.

Patients tend not to get their eyes checked regularly because they feel their vision seems normal.
When their eyes are uncomfortable, red, or irritated, patients tend to reach for OCT eye drops.
When their vision is affected, patients often think that their condition is temporary and wait in the hope that it will improve over time.
